Nuwara Eliya

Nuwara Eliya meaning “city on the plain”, is often referred to as ‘Little England’. It was the favourite destination for the British Colonialists founded by the explorer Samuel Baker in mid-19th century. Located just 30 kilometers a 45-drive from the Villa, it is a popular day excursion for activity seekers.

Nuwara Eliya contains many attractions including the famous Nuwara Eliya Golf Club founded in 1897 and Victoria Park Gardens named in 1889 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee which boasts brightly-coloured flora. Guests could embark on activities including boat trips on the magnificent Lake Gregory and horse-riding at the Nuwara Eliya racecourse. Of particular significance on the Ramayana trail is the Seetha Amman Kovil.
